"Best scene in the movie. The tension! The coffee cup shuffle!"
American Gangster was great, but it was frustratingly close-but-no-cigar when it came to meeting the standards of a classic mob drama. Brilliant real-life material and A class performances by both male leads, but the first 2 hours dragged with plenty of vaguely-interesting incremental plot development points with the occasional scene of Denzel laying some serious smackdown on his thugs/enemies. The last 40 minutes are amazing though - frantic action scenes, high tension interrogations and a nice moral wrapup.
